Which Mulch Is Best?
There isn’t a single right answer.
Pine straw, shredded hardwood, leaves, pine bark, and cypress mulch all have their place depending on your landscape and growing conditions. Ron’s personal preference for most East Texas landscapes is shredded hardwood mulch because it breaks down slowly and naturally improves the soil over time.

One Common Mistake to Avoid
One of the easiest mistakes to correct is piling mulch against the trunks of trees.
Instead, mulch should taper away from the trunk, leaving the base exposed. This simple practice helps protect the tree from excess moisture and promotes healthier long-term growth.
