Located on an embankment along the Red River, this site was designed to preserve the natural landscape and wildlife habitat along the shoreline. A minimalist planting design was employed to match the architectural style and create highlights for key focal points.
The initial site planning and design were challenged by the proximity of the Red River, which can be prone to flooding. Developing a landscape that met the client’s needs and expectations for the connection between interior and exterior spaces, while also embracing the unruly and evolving native habitat was of utmost importance to bringing this project to life.
Being located on the Red River, the integration of water is an important focal point and aesthetic component to this project. The design of a still reflection pool running the length of the home’s front elevation provides a powerful arrival experience that secretly exposes what is soon to be discovered with the river view from the back of the home.
